13. The Elephant In The Room

So, needless to say, the world has gone to shit these last few months. COVID-19 has decimated the every-day routines of life, and many people have been left shell-shocked and in a panic about what the future holds.

Living in fear of getting sick from things you can’t see, having to limit contact with others, and being isolated from everyone around you – for most cancer patients, this new lifestyle bears a familiar resemblance.

Make sure you get outside for some sun!

Make sure you get outside for some sun!

Personally, I’d say that I’m one of the lucky ones as I’m not immunocompromised (when you immune system is completely non-existent). The horrifying reality is that, due to the risk of catching this deadly virus, a large percentage of cancer patients have had their treatment cancelled or postponed.

Supporting those who are quite-literally fearing for their lives (whether they are a cancer patient or not), are not just doctors and nurses, but charity workers. These charity workers call people, ensuring they have the right information to stay safe. They help the elderly learn how to use online shopping services. They help the homeless stay safe in a time when “staying home” is essential.

Charitable activity (in any capacity) is often set at the back of people’s minds, and never really gets a second thought – especially in times like these. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, most charities are predicting a staggering loss in donations – some figures suggest a drop in donations of 60% or more.

I hope you can identify a charity that means something to you, and if you are able, please support them. This doesn’t just mean donating – you can help a charity by sharing their details with others, and showing support via social media.

I’m trying to do my bit by creating DashDonate.org, however, we’re a good month at least from launch.

That’s me done for now – a pretty short post. I’ll likely update again in a few months once my chemo is finished.

Stay safe, stay home, and please do get in touch if you need any support in these challenging times – catch me at info@dashdonate.org

Just to note - DashDonate stuff (links, info, etc.) is in my Hopeful Legacy.
